"Vulnerability is scary but pure. In it you can find bravery."

Raquel Franco

Welcome

Hello there, I'm Dominic, welcome.

I expect that you are here, reading this, as you are experiencing some form of suffering and confusion. You have reached a point where you want high-quality, professional support with this.

You want someone who is skilled in listening and presence, who wants to understand how things are for you.

You want someone who will accept you fully as you are, and will also challenge you at times, in a caring way, as this is what a genuine relationship involves.

I am passionate and committed to this work, as I have experienced in myself and seen in others how helpful such a relationship can be.

"May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children"

Rainer Maria Riilke

I can help you with..

  • feelings of anxiety, stress and/or depression
  • procrastination and wanting to shift this
  • struggles in relationships
  • challenges in the face of discrimination due to race, gender, class, sexuality
  • anger, sadness, grief
  • life changes or life choices
  • low self-esteem
  • lack of meaning in life
  • relationship with food
  • difficulties with body image
  • physical, sexual or emotional abuse as a child
  • reducing over-dependence on friends or family for emotional support
  • an inner critical voice

Perhaps there is another issue or difficulty besides these which I can support you with. Sometimes it feels difficult to name a problem other than a deeply felt sense of unease. Or that life is not the way you would like it to be right now.

Working Together

The first stage of working together is to build trust. Together we can explore how your life would look if therapy were to be successful. This gives direction to our work.

The pace of the work is different for everyone, and my intention is to offer the right approach for each individual. For example, at times you may require more space in which to explore your inner experience, whilst on other occasions you need more active questioning and investigating from me.

As the process unfolds, clarity can emerge around issues which felt stuck. We can see how your discoveries in therapy are being applied in your life. The journey can be challenging at times, but it may become possible for you to treat yourself with more kindness and understanding. The intention is to be able to move forward with greater trust and confidence in yourself.

I am committed to my work with clients. I have experienced for myself the healing possible as a result of finding the right psychotherapist or counsellor. This is true whether you want some short-term counselling support with a particular issue or crisis; or whether you are open to longer term work which can address the deeper roots of difficulties in our lives.

To read more about how I work, see Core Process Psychotherapy .

Sessions are held weekly on the same day and at the same time. It is usual to review how therapy is working after 6 weeks and from here to continue on a weekly basis whilst it is helpful to do so. It is your choice as to how long you stay in therapy and this depends on the nature of the issues you wish to explore.

Psychotherapy or Counselling?

Psychotherapy differs from Counselling in that it tends to happen over the longer term. A counsellor can help you see to yourself and your problems more realistically and to manage those problems better. Psychotherapy offers the longer-term prospect of finding meaning, healing and transformation.
